On Friday, July 29, National University of Health Sciences (NUHS) hosted Summerfest 2022. Led by Student Council and supported by more than 10 additional clubs and University departments, the fundraiser was designed to provide future funding to all clubs to enable them to host their own events.
The student body felt that the COVID pandemic had a strong impact on campus life. “We felt like it took away the life this campus once had and wanted to bring that back,” said Ali Sobh, NUHS 2022-2023 Student Council President, and 2021-2022 President, Naturopathic Medical Student Association (NMSA) Chicago Chapter.
“We decided to come up with a fundraiser consisting of three big events: a dunk tank, a pie-eating contest, and a water balloon fight, along with having the clubs host their own mini-activities,” he said.
For Mr. Sobh, the best part about planning Summerfest was working with his board members and getting to know them better.
“Understanding their personalities, what they like, what they don’t like, and just feeling like we are a big family that can count on each other if someone is stuck or needs help,” Mr. Sobh added.
Student Council is planning to make Summerfest an annual event moving forward.
“We received a lot of positive feedback from the attendees, and it was wonderful to see the whole campus community join together for a fun celebration,” he said.
