Acupuncture

National University’s Whole Health Center in Lombard offers you a comprehensive acupuncture and oriental medicine clinic. While our chiropractic care has always included basic forms of acupuncture under select conditions, you can now receive care from degreed specialists and their interns, who are earning master’s degrees in these ancient and effective healing arts.

What is Acupuncture?

The vital energy on which acupuncture principles are based is called qi (pronounced “chee”). Qi circulates in the body along channels called meridians. Acupuncture therapy, a procedure that places thin, sterile needles into specific points along the meridians, helps regulate the body’s natural energy flow. This therapy alleviates energy blockages and allows the body to regain a state of balance.

When qi is strong and flowing as it should, then physical, mental and spiritual health, and well-being flourish. Achieving this balance and harmony within the body is the main goal of the acupuncturist or oriental medical physician.

Is Acupuncture Safe? Does It Hurt?

Acupuncture is a safe, gentle, drug-free therapy that has been used successfully for over 2,000 years. Only sterile, disposable needles are used, and most patients feel slight-to-no discomfort when they are inserted. Acupuncture may be used along with other types of medical care and can be helpful for people of all ages.
