Recipients include Latesa Guerra, a NUHS Florida-site student pursuing a doctor of chiropractic degree, Nicholas Theocharakis, a St. Petersburg College student pursuing an Associate of Science in Emergency Medical Services, and Darhonda Manning, a St. Petersburg College student pursuing a Health Services Administration degree. Students received the scholarship awards at the Pinellas Park Gateway Chamber of Commerce Breakfast July 19.

As chairman of the Pinellas Park Medical District, Daniel Strauss, DC, dean of National University's College of Professional Studies in Florida, developed the merit-based scholarship program in 2016. The scholarships are awarded to students pursuing a career in health care who plan to attend an educational institution within the city of Pinellas Park that offers health care degrees or programs. Students are chosen based on merit, accomplishment and community-minded efforts.

"The Pinellas Park Medical District looks forward to continuing this sustainable initiative every year," Dr. Strauss said. "We are very fortunate to have such tremendous support from the city of Pinellas Park to help to make this happen."

The Pinellas Park Medical District is a partnership to promote and strengthen health care-related businesses in the Pinellas Park area, where the NUHS Florida-site is located. The district is made up of National University of Health Sciences, the city of Pinellas Park, St. Petersburg College, Pinellas Park Gateway Chamber of Commerce, Northside Hospital and other health care-related businesses

Students can apply for next year's scholarship starting March 1, 2018. For more information on how to apply visit www.pinellasparkchamber.com .
